Founded in Houston in 1985 by a field engineer who saw a problem no one was solving — Tech Transfer has spent 35+ years becoming the specialist firm that packagers, operators, and EPCs call when it matters most.

Company History

Founded to fix a problem the industry hadn't named yet.

Tech Transfer Inc. was established by Geoff Anderson in 1985 at a point in the gas compression industry when high-speed separable reciprocating gas compressors were becoming more common. These new designs had higher throughput with much smaller footprints and lower cost than comparable slow speed integral compressors.

Geoff, who was working for a major oil company at the time, recognized that separable reciprocating compressor vibration issues had increased to a point where a focused effort to investigate and resolve these issues was required. He left his position, purchased vibration data acquisition equipment, and established Tech Transfer Inc. as a reciprocating compressor vibration analysis company.

While gas compressor packaging standards were being updated for these new high-speed compressor frames, compressor skids were still being designed and built with light steel beams. Tech Transfer recognized that the higher mechanical and gas forces of these new compressor frames, combined with light steel skid construction, was the root cause of the higher vibration levels recorded in the field.

Tech Transfer was the pioneer in recommending heavier skid steel as well as recommending filling the skid areas under the compressor and driver with rebar-reinforced concrete. This was the first significant step in compressor skid design that substantially reduced overall package vibration levels. Tech Transfer remains an industry leader in reciprocating compressor skid and foundation designs.

In early 1995, Tech Transfer determined that in order to effectively resolve all vibration issues, the capability to conduct acoustical analyses was also needed. Tech Transfer developed pulsation analysis capabilities to support the field vibration analysis solutions program — and began performing acoustical analyses. In the years since, Tech Transfer has also developed the tools and capabilities for providing piping system mechanical natural frequency and stress analyses.

Today, Tech Transfer remains an industry leader in performing API 618 acoustical analyses.

Four decades of focused expertise

1985

Tech Transfer founded in Houston

Geoff Anderson establishes Tech Transfer Inc. as a reciprocating compressor vibration analysis company — purchasing field data acquisition equipment and setting out to solve a problem the industry hadn't formally addressed.

Late 1980s

Pioneer in heavier-duty skid design

TTI is the first firm to recommend heavier skid steel and rebar-reinforced concrete fills under compressor packages — a methodology that becomes the industry standard and substantially reduces package vibration levels across the gas compression industry.

1995

Acoustical pulsation analysis capability launched

Recognizing that field vibration solutions required acoustical analysis support, TTI develops in-house pulsation analysis capabilities and begins performing API 618 acoustical studies — quickly becoming a world leader in the discipline.

2000s

Full integrated analysis offering established

TTI develops piping system mechanical natural frequency and stress analysis capabilities, completing the six-discipline integrated offering — acoustical, piping, skid, vessel, field, and foundation — that defines the firm today.

2008

Brian Remy joins as lead structural engineer

Brian develops TTI's vessel dynamic analysis techniques and procedures to comply with API 618 5th Edition — strengthening the firm's structural analysis capabilities and expanding offshore and FPSO project scope.

July 2023

TTI Field Engineering, Inc. established

Tech Transfer expands its field engineering capabilities with the opening of TTI Field Engineering, Inc. — providing on-site vibration and pulsation data collection, equipment diagnostics, and a complete analytical solution for the full operating package.

Brian Remy, P.E.

President

Brian Remy is the President of Tech Transfer, and is also over the piping analysis and structural analysis groups. He is responsible for the analysis of reciprocating compressor skids, foundations and structures to prevent excessive stress and vibration.

Since joining the company in 2008, he has developed the vessel dynamic analysis techniques and procedures to comply with API 618 5th Edition. He has presented at the GMRC Foundation Seminars and is currently on the API 11P 3rd Edition committee.

Brian holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and a Master of Science in Engineering, both from the University of Texas at Austin. He is licensed to practice as a professional engineer in the State of Texas.

Paul Selover

Vice President

Paul Selover is the Vice President of Tech Transfer, and is also over the acoustical analysis department. He is responsible for the engineering design and analysis for prevention of excessive vibration in reciprocating compressor packages.

Prior to assuming his current position, Paul was a Project Engineer in the reciprocating compressor packaging industry at both Waukesha Pearce Industries (WPI) and Production Operators Inc. (POI).

Since joining the company, Paul has helped develop Tech Transfer's acoustical pulsation analysis methods. He has been conducting API 618 acoustical analyses for over 20 years at Tech Transfer and manages a group of four acoustical analysts.

Paul holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering Technology from the University of Houston.

James Poole, P.Eng.

Lead Piping Engineer

James Poole is the Lead Piping Engineer over the piping analysis group at Tech Transfer. He is responsible for performing piping stress and piping dynamic analysis for reciprocating compressor systems.

Prior to assuming his current position, James was a Pipe Stress Engineer at Fluor Corporation.

Since joining the company in 2009, he has co-developed new methods of computer modeling for improved stress and dynamic analysis results.

James holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Texas at San Antonio.

Tracy Pelkey

Office Manager

Tracy Pelkey is the Office Manager for Tech Transfer, Inc.

Tracy brings over 15 years of administrative experience in Office Management, Human Resources, and Accounting.

She assists in the development and implementation of policies, programs and practices. She maintains accounts payable, receivables and monthly billing.
